Outdoor Living Renovation Richland
The homeowners wanted to transform their existing deck into a more intentional outdoor living space that could better support entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying the wooded setting overlooking Hidden Lake in Richland. Their vision centered around expanding the deck to include a circular gathering area large enough to accommodate a substantial fire table with surrounding seating, while still providing space for outdoor dining.
The homeowners valued durability and ease of maintenance, leading them to select composite decking product designed to withstand the elements while remaining easy to clean and maintain.
A defining design feature of the project is the circular deck extension framed with a contrasting border board. The border continues through the main deck and wraps the circular space completely, creating both visual structure and a dramatic architectural focal point. In addition to its aesthetic impact, the circular border subtly defines and anchors the fire table seating area.
New cable railings were installed throughout the deck to preserve open sightlines and maximize views of the surrounding woods and lake. We also gave special attention to several highly personal details that were important to the family, including integrating a prominent mounting location for a large American flag and fabricating a custom bracket to support a treasured copper weather vane adjacent to the new railing system.
The project combined thoughtful design with durable materials to create an outdoor space that feels both functional and distinctive. By expanding the deck footprint, incorporating a custom circular gathering area, and minimizing visual obstructions with cable railing, the renovated deck now serves as an extension of the home and a destination for outdoor living.
Careful detailing, from the contrasting border inlays to the custom metalwork supporting the weather vane and flag, helped personalize the project while reinforcing the craftsmanship and character of the finished space.
